About The Position

Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Mortgage Lending Group to ensure efficient workflow, high service standards, sound credit administration, and regulatory compliance across residential mortgage, home equity, and consumer lending activities. Provides leadership and support to mortgage processing, underwriting, and related operational functions to ensure timely and accurate loan origination and portfolio support. The VP Mortgage Lending Operations Manager oversees department processes, pipeline performance, quality control, and staff support, while promoting operational consistency and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of residential mortgage, home equity, and consumer lending practices, underwriting guidelines, loan documentation, compliance requirements, and operational workflows.
  • Strong understanding of mortgage processing, credit risk evaluation, collateral review, and quality control practices.
  • Prior underwriting experience required, with demonstrated ability to review and decision loans as needed.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, support staff development, and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive mortgage lending experience, including meaningful experience in mortgage operations, underwriting, or closely related lending functions, with prior supervisory or managerial experience preferred.
  • Maintains an acceptable registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
  • Provides day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to mortgage operations and lending staff.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Performs work within established guidelines and according to departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Exercises sound judgment in resolving operational issues, recommending improvements, and escalating matters as appropriate.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and effective interpersonal communication skills are essential.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent specialized course work and training in lending, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of the Bank’s products and services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Mortgage Lending Group to ensure efficient processing, underwriting support, closing coordination, and high service standards for residential mortgage, home equity, and consumer lending.
  • Monitor pipeline performance and workflow activity to ensure loans are processed within established service levels, regulatory timeframes, and internal standards; identify and address delays or bottlenecks.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, Bank policies, and internal controls by maintaining effective procedures and recommending updates as needed.
  • Oversee quality control, process reviews, and operational reporting to promote accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement across mortgage operations.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and staff support to strengthen operational performance, accountability, and service delivery.
  • Serve as an operational resource to loan officers, originators, processors, and other lending staff on documentation, workflow, product knowledge, and underwriting-related matters.
  • Use prior underwriting experience to support complex or escalated files and underwrite loans as needed within approved authority; this role is not primarily responsible for routine underwriting.
  • Oversee collateral review and stage inspection processes for applicable construction lending activity.
  • Assist with audits, examinations, product updates, and procedural changes to support regulatory readiness and operational effectiveness.
  • Identify and communicate system or workflow issues impacting operations and coordinate with internal technology and vendor partners for resolution.
  • Remain current on industry and regulatory developments relevant to mortgage operations.
  • Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required.
