TailorCare

About The Position

TailorCare is a remote-first specialty-care company focused on improving outcomes for people with joint, back, and muscle conditions. The VP, Engineering owns three product engineering teams serving patients and care teams: data science and decisioning, patient engagement, and care team productivity. These teams shape the patient journey from initial outreach through care completion, working alongside data platform and infrastructure teams that report under the CTO. The role sets the engineering plan for the patient journey in partnership with Product, develops the directors and managers leading the teams, and communicates organizational commitments and progress to the executive team. The VP is accountable for engineering outcomes, delivery, talent, technical standards, and the performance of technology, data, and decisioning systems across the care journey. The position works closely with Product, clinical and value-based care leaders, operations, and other business partners to align roadmaps, make tradeoffs, and ensure commitments are feasible. Systems handle protected health information under HIPAA in a HITRUST environment, and the VP owns their compliance posture in partnership with Security and Compliance. TailorCare operates as a remote-first company, with an option for a hybrid work model in Nashville. Travel of up to 10% may be required for onsite meetings, team collaboration, and company events.

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of experience in software engineering.
  • 7 or more years leading multi-team organizations through directors or managers.
  • Experience owning a business outcome or company-monitored metric and explaining how engineering decisions affected it.
  • A record of developing leaders, including developing first-time engineering managers into capable leads.
  • Experience keeping commitments realistic by surfacing feasibility before promises and delivering against hard external deadlines without compromising quality.
  • A track record of strong, trusting partnerships with product management, with clear decision rights and shared accountability rather than a requirements handoff.
  • Experience in a startup or scale-up where organizational structure had to be built rather than inherited.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as needed for onsite meetings, team collaboration, and company events.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field.
  • Healthcare, payer, or value-based care experience and familiarity with HIPAA-regulated systems.
  • Experience with contact center, telephony, or omnichannel engagement platforms.

  • Partner with Clinical Operations, Patient Engagement, Marketing, Medical Economics, and platform teams, with shared goals at team interfaces.
  • Make engineering tradeoff decisions with Product and operations partners, drive resolution of difficult tradeoffs, and escalate choices that would change the company's strategic bet to the CTO.
  • Hire, develop, and hold directors and managers accountable; develop first-time engineering managers and make team design and succession decisions.
  • Ensure Product and Engineering agree that client and date commitments are buildable before they are made, and keep the executive team informed about roadmap delivery.
  • Set architecture for patient-facing and care-team systems within the CTO's direction; make in-scope build-versus-buy decisions and establish engineering practices that support fast, safe delivery.
  • Own the compliance posture of systems handling protected health information under HIPAA in a HITRUST environment, in partnership with Security and Compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
