Voting System/Hardware Test Engineer
About The Position
The Voting System/Hardware Test Engineer supports the testing and certification of voting technology systems, including hardware, software, firmware, and related documentation. This role conducts structured tests, documents results, identifies discrepancies, and helps assess compliance with applicable regulatory and certification requirements. This position also provides administrative and project oversight for hardware-related testing activities within the Voting System Test Laboratory (VSTL). Responsibilities include scheduling tests, coordinating with subcontractor laboratories, managing hardware analysis and functional testing, and developing hardware testing methodologies. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in electrical engineering and an interest in compliance, quality assurance, regulated technologies, and election systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to learn and apply regulatory and technical requirements.
- Interact professionally with both internal and external clients.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

- Experience creating test cases, test procedures, or technical reports.
- Familiarity with hardware/software integration environments.
Responsibilities
- Review technical documentation, specifications, and requirements.
- Conduct document reviews against certification requirements and standards.
- Develop hardware-related test plans, cases, procedures, data, and reports in accordance with standard lab procedures.
- Perform testing of voting system hardware, software, and integrated systems.
- Execute functional test plans, test procedures, and test cases.
- Assist with hardware setup, tracking, operational checks, and test execution.
- Document test results, observations, and discrepancies.
- Support re-testing efforts following issue resolution.
- Oversee hardware test tools, including maintenance and calibration.
- Oversee on-site and off-site laboratory testing to ensure hardware testing is completed successfully.
- Work with the Test Manager to estimate, track, and compare planned versus actual hardware testing hours for internal projects.
- Support technical discussions, analyze engineering change orders, and answer technical questions, seeking assistance from the Test Manager as needed.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records throughout the testing lifecycle.
- Learn and apply Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and other applicable voting system requirements.
- Collaborate with team members to complete testing projects in line with quality, schedule, and regulatory expectations.
