About The Position

Vote Blue is a field firm specializing in face-to-face canvassing operations. Our sole focus is on mobilizing and engaging voters to participate in the elections this fall and fight back at the ballot box. This role is based in Lansing, MI, and starts at the beginning of September for the midterm campaign cycle. We are looking for candidates who can manage a team of 15-20 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to voters about defending reproductive rights. The position requires the director to canvass several days a week to train staff and drive office goals, set goals and hold staff accountable, train and provide ongoing motivation and support, identify, promote, and train a leadership team, build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice, implement quality control measures, maintain a healthy and safe working environment, develop strategic plans, and manage administrative duties including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement
  • Track record of equity and inclusion
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees
  • Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities
  • Facilitation experience
  • Local knowledge/experience

Responsibilities
