About The Position

Big Ideas Educational Services focuses on providing fun, safe, and supportive environments for students to strengthen academic and communication skills through recreational activities tied to academic learning. The organization is committed to high-quality after-school experiences that build skills and confidence, especially for students who may not thrive in traditional text-based classroom settings. As a volunteer, the role involves maintaining a positive attitude and assisting in creating a classroom environment conducive to student learning. Volunteers also provide support in specialized areas of expertise and general main office assistance.

Requirements

Must be under the constant supervision of a trained and screened staff person and may not be left alone or in charge of any group of children.
If volunteering 10 hours or more per month or receiving some form of compensation, must submit background screening information under section 402.302(3), Florida Statutes, and complete state-mandated training requirements.

Responsibilities

Maintain a positive attitude and assist in ensuring the classroom environment is conducive to student learning.
Assist administration in specialized areas of expertise.
Provide main office assistance by answering phones, filing (non-confidential), classroom deliveries, and answering questions.
Assist teachers as classroom helpers with the preparation of classroom materials.
Tutoring of individual students.
Cleaning classrooms.
Facilitating celebrations.
Reading to and with individual students and groups of students.
Creating and putting up bulletin boards.
Facilitation of classroom projects.
Applying appropriate conflict management skills with students.
Performs other voluntary jobs as identified by the after-school program.
