About The Position

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Volunteer Services Program Manager to strategically lead and continuously strengthen its organization-wide volunteer program. This role involves owning the volunteer experience from recruitment and onboarding through placement, engagement, recognition, compliance, and performance measurement. The manager will partner with clinical, operational, academic, and community leaders to identify areas where volunteers can make the greatest impact. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder and strategic program leader capable of transforming ideas into sustainable programs, influencing across the organization, and creating an exceptional experience for both volunteers and those they serve. This position is fully on campus and requires the candidate to live in Nebraska or Iowa. Previous healthcare experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, human resources, business administration, public relations, communications, nonprofit management, organizational development, social sciences, or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in volunteer services, program management, healthcare operations, human resources, community engagement, nonprofit administration, or related field required.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or managing programs, processes, workflows, or service models required.
  • Experience recruiting, screening, interviewing, onboarding, or placing volunteers, employees, students, or community participants required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and influence stakeholders across departments without direct authority required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program operations, data tracking, process improvement, service recovery, and customer or patient experience principles required.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize complex work, solve problems independently, and exercise sound judgment required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and ability to learn volunteer management, scheduling, reporting, and documentation systems required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, organizational leadership, human resources, or related field preferred.
  • Experience managing volunteer services in a healthcare, academic medical center, nonprofit, community, or complex service environment preferred.
  • Experience with volunteer management software, scheduling platforms, applicant tracking tools, or HR information systems preferred.
  • Experience developing community, academic, student, or workforce pipeline partnerships preferred.
  • Experience with Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, infection prevention, or other healthcare regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Certification in volunteer administration, healthcare volunteer management, project management, change management, or related field preferred.
  • Previous healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic planning, development, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization’s volunteer services program.
  • Advancing the patient, family, colleague, and community experience by designing and sustaining a volunteer program that aligns volunteer talent with organizational priorities, operational needs, safety standards, and service excellence expectations.
  • Serving as the primary program owner for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, placement, engagement, compliance, recognition, and performance measurement.
  • Partnering with clinical, operational, academic, and community stakeholders to identify high-value volunteer opportunities, strengthen the volunteer pipeline, improve program infrastructure, and ensure volunteers are appropriately prepared and supported.
  • Providing program leadership, direction, consultation, and accountability for the volunteer workforce and the departments supported by Volunteer Services.
