About The Position

The Volunteer Program Assistant will support this mission by training and managing volunteers, ensuring their time and talents are effectively utilized.   • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, including during inclement weather.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Comfort handling or learning to handle both dogs and cats.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Program team to achieve program goals and strategies, focusing on growing volunteer support for other departments.
  • Foster a positive, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere in the Volunteer Center and the organization.
  • Train volunteers on shelter protocols and basic animal handling.
  • Assist in designing and developing training materials for volunteers (digital and print).
  • Provide in-shelter oversight and direction to volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Ensure volunteers feel valued and appreciated.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including entering volunteer timesheets and managing inventories of volunteer access cards.
  • Monitor and post volunteer program updates on social media.
  • Assist with recruiting and supervising volunteers for special events (e.g., Fur Ball, Dog Jog, 5K Run, Block Party, Fidos After 5, offsite adoptions, community tables).
  • Assist with planning, setup, and hosting volunteer appreciation events.
  • Participate in all required trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
