About The Position

The Ocean Reef Volunteer Fire Department (ORVFD) is seeking responsible individuals to join their team as Volunteer Firefighters. Selected candidates will be expected to promptly respond to emergency situations, including fires and medical emergencies, alongside ORCA FD career Firefighter-Medics. This role is crucial for the protection of life and property within the Ocean Reef Community. Volunteers will commit to a minimum of two and a maximum of five twenty-four hour shifts per month, for which a stipend will be provided.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and to communicate effectively (written and oral).
  • Ability to react quickly and courteously with the public.
  • Ability to work as a team member on a twenty-four (24) hour shift operation.
  • Ability to complete the department’s approved Ocean Reef Firefighter Readiness Drill.
  • Requires the use of protective equipment, manuals, reports, and directories and lists.
  • Requires the use of radios, sirens, emergency lights, patrol vehicles, pumper trucks, ladder trucks, and ambulances.
  • Required to walk, run, climb, carry, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, hoses, axes, pike poles, generators, pumps, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities are required, including close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to recognize specific colors, designs, and logos.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move over 100-pounds.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Valid Florida Driver License.
  • Florida Firefighter II Certification is required.
  • Florida Emergency Medical Technician Certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of related experience is preferred.
  • Florida Paramedic Certification and/or National Registry Paramedic Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs fire suppression activities in accordance with policies and procedures as directed by their supervisor and chain of command.
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of fire station and firefighting / EMS equipment.
  • Performs emergency medical services as directed via chain of command.
  • Participates in required training.
  • Ensures compliance with Ocean Reef Community Association (ORCA) policies and procedures, standard operating procedures, and direction from Public Safety management.
  • Promotes positive interaction within the community in order to enhance Public Safety acceptance, understanding and approval of all those served.
  • May be assigned additional duties as deemed necessary.
