About The Position

Atlanta Mission is a Christ-centered nonprofit ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of those experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction. We serve men, women, and children through holistic services—providing shelter, recovery programs, job readiness, and spiritual support. The Atlanta Mission wants every volunteer that serves to feel valued, equipped, and fulfilled during their service. The Volunteer Engagement Intern role is critical in identifying organizational needs for volunteers, recruiting them, and placing them in key roles that will provide the most impact for both the volunteer and organization. An intern will benefit from: Greater depth of understanding about the fields of Human Services and Volunteer Management Increased communication skills as you work with a diverse group of individuals, groups, civic organizations, corporations, and other non-profits Project management experience serving as part of a team developing events and volunteer opportunities

Requirements

  • Strong computer literacy in MS Office with concentration in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivation and ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to organize, multitask and prioritize a heavy workload

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships and coordinate with key staff teams to understand current services, client needs, program needs and how volunteers could support their work.
  • As needed, partners with each department to build job descriptions and training materials required for each volunteer role
  • Partners with Donation Center to understand In-Kind needs, processes and volunteer support.
  • Respond to incoming volunteer inquiries (contact forms, voice messages, and email) in a timely manner (standard: within 72 hours)
  • Matches volunteers with opportunities that best fit the needs of the organization and the interests/ availability of the volunteers.
  • Assists volunteers in establishing accounts on the Volunteer Management System.
  • Helps volunteers navigate the registration process as well as the pre-requisites that may be required for certain client-facing roles (e.g., background check screening for childcare)
  • Communicates with volunteers prior to serve opportunity to ensure they are equipped with information needed to serve (e.g., parking, directions)
  • Provides seamless communication and handoff of volunteers to other members of the Volunteer Engagement Team or receiving department
  • Manages registration, communication and training for volunteers serving at the Mission Support Center location.
  • Logs volunteer communication/engagement in Volunteer and Donor Management Systems
  • Serves as needed on client campuses to welcome new volunteers, have them register and then lead new volunteer orientations.
  • Support large volunteer groups on client campuses as well as large scale events such as Fall Festival, 5K, Gala, etc.
  • Maintains and updates current list of volunteer recruitment postings including the addition, deletion and edits of posted opportunities.
  • Promotes the use of the VMS for the tracking and assignment of volunteers.
  • Completes accurate reporting of weekly volunteer rosters and reports; ensures timely distribution to volunteer team and campus leads.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting of volunteer hours and activities, as well as In-Kind reporting.
