About The Position

Join a collaborative conservation-focused team supporting the Dungeness Nature Alliance, a joint volunteer program between the Dungeness River Nature Center and the Dungeness/Protection Island Refuge Management Program. This role works closely with the Volunteer Manager to support volunteer engagement, program coordination, community outreach, and environmental education efforts across the North Olympic Peninsula. The Volunteer Coordinator supports the Volunteer Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Dungeness Nature Alliance volunteer program. This position assists with volunteer coordination, communications, scheduling, onboarding, compliance tracking, record keeping, appreciation activities, and overall program support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new systems, including data entry and database platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License with ability to travel locally as assigned.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience supporting volunteer programs, environmental education, community outreach, or customer service.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive interpersonal situations with professionalism, sound judgment, and respect.
  • Knowledge of the natural and cultural history of the North Olympic Peninsula, including anadromous fish, riparian forests, resident birds and mammals, and Native American tribes of the area.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer inquiries when the Volunteer Manager is unavailable, escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Maintain and update the volunteer database, including data entry, activity logging, and contact list accuracy.
  • Maintain volunteer program supplies including ordering, inventory, and distribution of uniforms, nametags, and event materials.
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation and recognition events.
  • Support volunteer records and compliance tracking, including volunteer files, forms, retention, and outreach.
  • Assist with volunteer onboarding, training support, and day-to-day volunteer assistance across program sites.
  • Draft and distribute volunteer communications including newsletters, announcements, appreciation posts, and recognition content.
  • Assist with volunteer scheduling and shift management while ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of the volunteer program in coordination with the Volunteer Manager.
  • Adhere to all JST policies and procedures, including safety standards and work practices outlined in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
