About The Position

This position is responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and training volunteers for service projects within the Corps. The role involves helping to supervise volunteers, preparing and distributing letters to volunteers, collecting, organizing, and maintaining volunteer information, and assisting in the preparation of volunteer activity reports. The Volunteer Coordinator works with department heads to determine program volunteer needs and discuss applicant qualifications, and collaborates with the Service Center Director and Social Services Manager to plan and coordinate special events. This role also assists staff in seasonal programs like Angel Tree and the Red Kettle Campaign with volunteers to meet annual fundraising goals. Responsibilities include orienting volunteers to The Salvation Army's services and positions, assisting them with applications, background checks, confidentiality commitments, and photo releases. The coordinator also maintains a calendar of upcoming volunteer activities and projects, including website updates and social media posts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of experience recruiting people to perform work on a volunteer basis preferred, or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and assigns work of volunteers; instructs volunteers in proper methods and procedures; checks and approves work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy and completeness as well as compliance with Salvation Army policies and procedures
  • Works with department heads to determine the program’s volunteer needs and to discuss qualifications of specific volunteer applicants.
  • Works with Service Center Director and Social Services Manager to plan and coordinate special events.
  • Helps staff seasonal programs, such as Angel Tree and Red Kettle Campaign with Volunteers to meet annual campaign fundraising goals.
