About The Position

The Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator leads and oversees volunteer and community engagement programming, ensuring the consistent, effective, and mission-aligned involvement of volunteers and community partners in refugee resettlement services. This position is responsible for volunteer recruitment, training, program coordination, and data tracking, as well as the ongoing support and engagement of volunteers, interns, and service learners. The coordinator manages cultural mentoring and co-sponsorship programming, ensuring appropriate matching, communication, and alignment with client needs and program goals. The role also plans and executes community events and outreach strategies that increase awareness and participation in resettlement efforts. Additionally, the Coordinator builds and maintains strong relationships with community organizations, faith-based groups, and internal staff to enhance collaboration and expand program impact.

  • Program Coordination & Implementation: Ability to manage multiple program components simultaneously, including mentorship or co-sponsorship programs, volunteer placements, and service projects. Skilled in coordinating logistics, tracking participation, and ensuring program goals are met.
  • Event Planning & Community Engagement: Experience planning and executing events of varying scale (e.g., community outreach events, recognition events, service projects). Ability to manage details, coordinate stakeholders, and create meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Partnership Development & Stakeholder Collaboration: Proven ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with internal staff, external partners, and institutions. Skilled in navigating competing needs, addressing challenges, and ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  • Organizational & Administrative Effectiveness: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience using databases or tracking systems, maintaining accurate records, and producing clear written communication (reports, newsletters, outreach materials).

  • Frequent regional travel.
  • May be required to transport clients in personal vehicle.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and two years related experience preferred; Candidates with two to four years of transferable work/volunteer experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts outreach presentations to local congregations, businesses, and community groups to educate on refugee resettlement and secure new volunteer teams or co-sponsorship commitments.
  • Recruits, screens, and matches volunteers, interns, and service learners to appropriate roles; maintains ongoing communication and recognition efforts to support retention and engagement.
  • Designs and delivers onboarding and ongoing training sessions for volunteers and mentors, including creating training materials and leading group workshops or orientations.
  • Manages the Cultural Mentoring/co-sponsorship groups by matching mentor teams with families, tracking participation, and coordinating with case managers to prioritize client needs.
  • Plans and executes events such as World Refugee Day, volunteer appreciation events, and community service projects, including logistics coordination, promotion, and on-site facilitation.
  • Coordinates with internal staff, faith-based partners, and community organizations to align volunteer efforts, resolve challenges, and strengthen ongoing program partnerships.
  • Maintains accurate records in the volunteer management database, tracks volunteer hours and donations, and produces monthly reports and communications such as newsletters and social media content.
