EMS: Volleyball Helper (6-8) Coach, 2026/27 season

About The Position

The helper is responsible for assisting the coaching staff in developing each participating student's skills, fostering an appreciation for discipline and sportsmanship, and enhancing their self-esteem. This role reports to the Head Coach and operates under the guidance of the Varsity Head Coach and the on-site Athletic Director/LEAP Liaison. Coaches are expected to commit 2-3 days per week, with more days being welcomed. These are paid positions with a $500 (taxed) stipend.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certificate and a bachelor’s degree preferred
  • First aid and CPR training preferred
  • Experience in teaching, coaching, and sports medicine preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate success in area of application

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the TCAPS Code of Conduct and acts as a positive role model.
  • Adheres to Playing Fair: A Guide to Title IX in High School and College Sports.
  • Helps individual participants develop skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
  • Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, training techniques, and general sport information.
  • Works cooperatively with TCAPS coaches, athletic directors/LEAP Liaison, and students.
  • Supports the coaching staff in the conduct of their sport and the total athletic program.
  • Fulfills all responsibilities assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Helps maintain accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
  • Helps supervise fundraising efforts.
  • Helps with necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
  • Helps in maintaining a detailed inventory list of uniforms, equipment, and supplies, and recommends requests to the coaching staff.
  • Helps the coaching staff in developing consistent and positive communication through the school and media.
  • Reinforces coaching staff in all Michigan High School Athletic Association rules related to the sport.
  • Reinforces coaching staff in discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
  • Helps the coaching staff in establishing performance criteria for eligibility.
  • Helps the coaching staff in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area at all times that students are present.
  • Reinforces rules and regulations concerning conditioning of players and their health and safety.
  • Reports injuries to the trainer if applicable and/or completes and submits accident reports.
  • Exercises great care in dealing with all injuries.
  • Provides supervision of all athletes until they have left the building and/or site.
  • Ensures that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used.
  • Helps the coaching staff with assigned practice sessions and out-of-season conditioning programs.
  • Ensures a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying, and intimidating language and behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as required.
