About The Position

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Volleyball Coach to support the Promise Academy After School program. The coach will bring a passion for HCZ's mission to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming. The Volleyball Coach will join the Promise Academy After School program team, which offers students a variety of project-based learning, developmental, and enrichment activities, including athletics, arts, tutoring, homework help, academic intervention, health/wellness, and physical fitness education. The ideal candidate will develop all aspects of a high-quality Volleyball athletics program and provide effective leadership to scholars.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent or better
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Experience working with youth and adolescent population
  • Solid understanding of youth sports and safety guidelines
  • Must be able to travel to away games or events
  • Must have strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent writing and communication skills
  • Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible, and approachable attitude
  • Ability to effectively engage and motivate students

Nice To Haves

  • College degree
  • At least two years of coaching experience
  • Strong knowledge and a keen understanding of football
  • Ensure the various athletics curriculums are structured and have learning goals

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and execute the volleyball athletics curriculum
  • Create a program that will include daily conditioning, fundamental drills, and a strategic playbook
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and playing field
  • Collaborate and consult with staff on student performance in various athletic activities and schoolwork
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Athletics Program Director
  • Develop positive relationships with students that promotes wellness, growth, respect, and self-esteem
  • Act as a positive role model for students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
