About The Position

Edmonton Public Library is seeking a dynamic Voices of the Land Coordinator to advance provincial Indigenous Digital Storytelling Initiatives. This role focuses on improving Indigenous data sovereignty and user experiences with web-content sharing platforms, specifically the https://voicesoftheland.org/ platform. The coordinator will be responsible for the continuous improvement and day-to-day administration of this platform, ensuring a strong end-user experience. A key aspect of the role involves being a training ambassador, facilitating platform user training sessions for Indigenous communities and library staff across Alberta, and mentoring participants in sharing their stories and using the platform effectively. The position requires a strong connection to Indigenous communities in Alberta and a collaborative approach within the Collection Management & Access team.

Requirements

  • Certificate in digital media production or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of three years of related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience or coursework on training people to use technology is required.
  • An understanding of local Indigenous communities including Indigenous perspectives, histories, traditions, and protocols.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid Alberta operator's license is required.
  • A strong customer service orientation.
  • The ability to develop and deliver effective training programs for staff and customers.
  • The ability to work effectively with customers of all age levels and backgrounds; recognizing the needs of users from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social, and educational backgrounds.
  • The ability to work effectively in diverse community settings is required.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • The capacity to readily adapt to shifting priorities and new service directions.
  • Ability to convey complex and technical information in clear and jargon-free language to staff at all levels.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, Microsoft Office applications, mobile devices, and other web-based platforms and service applications.
  • A commitment to uphold the Canadian Federation of Library Associations position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position, which includes a Criminal Record Check/Police Information Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Related degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution (equivalencies may be considered).
  • Experience in a large public sector, institutional or commercial organization is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the continuous improvement and day-to-day administration of the https://voicesoftheland.org/ digital content platform.
  • Focus on the end-user experience of the digital content platform.
  • Act as a training ambassador, effectively facilitating platform user training sessions for members of Indigenous communities and library staff across Alberta.
  • Mentor and support participants in sharing their stories and using the platform effectively.
  • Travel as needed throughout the province.
