About The Position

WellPower's Vocational Trainee program provides experience to individuals who have a mental illness and who wish to learn a job or vocation. The goal of the program is to help individuals obtain work related skills and experiences that will lead to regular employment in the communities where they live. Due to the large number of applicants, not every applicant will be selected for an interview or hired; selection is fit focused to meet program needs. If selected, each program provides 9-11 months of learning experiences meant to support preparation for competitive employment.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in and receiving services by WellPower.
  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.

  • Develop professional and empathetic communication skills
  • Gain tools to remain calm and respond during a “crisis” (a situation is escalating; a person is upset or there is a medical emergency etc.)
  • Gain confidence in communicating challenges and ideas to co-workers, supervisors, and managers
  • Communicate tardiness and absences in a timely manner to front desk and direct supervisor
  • Communicate with fellow coworkers & supervisors in a professional and mindful manner.
  • Communicate needs of safety to fellow coworkers and supervisors and address safety concerns immediately
  • Communicate and alert Supervisor of any falls, slips, injuries or messes that may need to be cleaned up.
  • Conduct honest processing and storage of products
  • Enjoy personal shopping during allotted time.
  • Communicate any unethical behaviors to direct supervisor or manager

Responsibilities

  • Greeting PWS in an approachable, friendly, and professional manner by engaging in brief conversations.
  • Safely operate door as people come and go at different speeds with various items and service animals.
  • Receive donations arriving at the front desk.
  • Assist with directing PWS on how to check in.
  • Provide answers to various questions from people we serve and/or direct them towards the best person who can provide an answer.
  • Maintain vigilance at all times including the ability to alert supervisor/ staff of concerns going on in the parking lot, across the street and in the vicinity of the building.
  • Remember names and faces of people we serve, including those who are on a break to support in maintaining a safe environment at the Resource Center.
  • Assisting guests with various resources as needed.
  • Collecting shopping baskets left outside and returning them into the building.
