About The Position

This professional, highly responsible career service position is established as the Vocational Rehabilitation Technician (Classroom Instructor) at Sunland. The primary function of this position is to ensure that each resident’s active treatment program is integrated, coordinated, and monitored. Ensuring a healthy and safe environment for each resident is a key component of the role. The Classroom Instructor serves as a back-up for other caseloads as assigned. This position may be assigned to a home or specific case load as needed. This is a mission critical/essential, excluded position thus tasked with responding in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an allied health field, one of the behavioral or rehabilitative sciences, music therapy, music education, or music, physical education with course work in adaptive physical education, vocational education, sociology, trades and arts education, industrial arts education, leisure studies with course work in therapeutic recreation, or horticulture therapy.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of one of the allied health field disciplines or one of the rehabilitative sciences.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to interview clients to identify needs.
  • Ability to plan and conduct rehabilitation therapy programs.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to write evaluation and progress reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate the Educational/vocational facets of the active treatment team’s efforts, effectively coordinating internal and external program services facilitating the acquisition of residents’ skills and adaptive behaviors and promoting competent interactions of residential staff with other residents in program implementation and behavior management.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate continuous active treatment in the therapeutic environment to enhance, maintain, and/or develop each resident’s skills.
  • Develop, train, and implement advanced group and/or individualized therapeutic treatment.
  • Document teaching data for instructional activities using appropriate data collection methods.
  • Train residents involved in the design and implementation of individualized therapy programs used to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth and skills of the resident.
  • Assure timely follow-up on related resident needs.
  • Oversee the residents and staff in the classroom, outings, field trips and special events, engaging the resident in structured activities and provide informal activities as needed.
  • Escort residents as needed or assigned, to or from classroom activities or to other program areas.
  • Ensure the completion of documentation of treatment and instruction to include implementation of teaching programs.
  • Ensure, monitor, and write monthly summaries indicating monthly progress according to data interpretation.
  • Document significant behaviors, accident, and incident reports, etc. as required/directed.
  • Develop and prepare instructional materials to maintain an orderly classroom setting that is neat, clean, and conducive to learning.
  • Maintain attendance records and report monthly.
  • Conduct assessments of residents to include writing: Individualized Program Plan (IPP) reports and summaries, active treatment summaries, discharge summaries and other reports as required.
  • Develop annual goals that are based on assessment results and submit as required.
  • Attend support plan meetings, active treatment meetings, staff meetings, in-service meetings, and consultations with other instructional or house staff concerning resident programming or progress.
  • Monitor, motivate and direct staff in resident service provision.
  • Complete all required training.
  • Complete and maintain approved maladaptive behavior prevention/de-escalation/intervention certification as required.
  • Maintain timesheet, ensuring accuracy and submit timely in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
