About The Position

The Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Specialist II to provide Pre-Employment Transition Services for youth and students with disabilities. This role aims to increase employment and advancement opportunities for individuals with disabilities by assisting them in maintaining, preparing for, and obtaining gainful employment. The Specialist ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and division policy, conducts initial interviews, determines eligibility for services, identifies necessary services to overcome disability barriers, addresses employment readiness, and coordinates services with partners.

Requirements

Possession of a Bachelor's degree.
Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science-related field or one year of professional experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist I providing rehabilitation counseling or vocational evaluation services to clients with physical or behavioral disabilities, or teaching services to clients with partial or total visual impairment.
Must consent to a State Police Investigation (fingerprinting).

Responsibilities

Provide Pre-Employment Transition Services for youth and students with disabilities.
Increase employment and advancement opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Assist consumers in maintaining, preparing for, and obtaining gainful employment consistent with their interests, skills, capacities, strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and informed choices.
Ensure application of federal and state regulations and division policy.
Complete initial interviews.
Determine applicant eligibility for services.
Determine the nature and scope of services necessary to address disability barriers.
Address employment readiness.
Ensure identified services are provided and/or coordinated with various partners.
