About The Position
In partnership with people with disabilities, the Division of Rehabilitative Services (DRS), a division of the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), assists individuals with disabilities in making informed choices that maximize their employment opportunities through coordinated service delivery. DRS staff support the Virginia Career Works Network in delivering quality workforce services to individuals with disabilities who want to work, as well as to employers seeking to hire them. We are seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor / Trainee (Adult Caseload). This role provides vocational rehabilitation counseling and guidance, case management, and comprehensive service delivery to help individuals with disabilities achieve competitive integrated employment (CIE). Employees must adhere to all federal and state regulations and agency policies and procedures, including WIOA Title IV requirements. This position serves adults in Culpeper, Orange, Madison, Rappahannock, and Fauquier Counties. This position works with adult clients with varying disabilities. Other duties and special projects may be assigned as needed or directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field.
- Applicants within a semester of completing their master's may also be considered.
- Transcripts must accompany the application, and they must display the date that the degree was awarded.
- Considerable knowledge of the social, economic, medical, vocational, and emotional issues impacting persons with disabilities.
- Considerable knowledge of interviewing, evaluation, and counseling techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of methods and tools for career counseling and exploration.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of vocational service delivery to persons with disabilities.
- Skilled in Windows based computer usage.
- Ability to learn proprietary software for case management/case documentation purposes.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, and the professional community.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple and sometimes unrelated responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Ability to prioritize duties and exercise responsible judgment with minimal supervision.
