Vocational Instructor - Practical Nursing/Health Care Assistant (Substitute)

Based on operational requirements, this on-call position may be assigned to support the Practical Nursing program, the Health Care Assistant program, or both. The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one’s field, instructional and professional duties, professional development and service.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Current active registration with the BCCNM is required.
- Five or more years experience in Acute, Long Term and /or Community Care is required.
- Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills.
- Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline.
- The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.
Nice To Haves
- A Master’s Degree is preferred.
- A Diploma in Nursing may be considered with relevant experience.
- An Instructor’s Diploma is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
- Experience in pediatrics, mental health or obstetrics may be an asset.
- Recent teaching experience an asset
- The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy.
Responsibilities
- Instructional duties may include any or all of the following: instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; practicum placement; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.
- Professional duties may include any or all of the following: curriculum development, student registration and pre registration duties.
- Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.
- Service may include any or all of the following: school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other function; administrative and other duties
