Requirements

  • A Paralegal certificate or diploma, plus five years of work in a legal setting as a paralegal.
  • Completion of or current enrolment in a Provincial Instructor's Diploma or valid BC Teacher's Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience, which may include a university degree in an appropriate discipline, will also be considered.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current paralegal skills and practices and recent experience in a legal environment.
  • Knowledge of online learning platforms such as Moodie, or Brightspace (preferred).
  • Online/hyflex teaching experience would be an asset.
  • Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy.

  • Candidates will be comfortable with technology and demonstrate knowledge of software programs relevant to their discipline.
  • The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience in the area of Legal Administration and/or Paralegal, and current experience working in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional duties may include any or all of the following: instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.
  • Professional duties may include any or all of the following: curriculum development, student registration and preregistration duties.
  • Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.
  • Service may include any or all of the following: school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other function; administrative and other duties.
