About The Position

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational Vocational Instructor (Voc. A/B) to work in the DDS Mansfield Redemption Center providing guidance to individuals with intellectual disabilities maximizing each person’s potential. The ideal candidate supports and implements department directives, displays a positive attitude and motivates others to work as a team.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must possess current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • At least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience working with individuals with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental illness, and/or blindness; in vocational or industrial training; or in vocational or industrial instruction.
  • An Associate's or higher degree in industrial arts or vocational education may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
  • One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
  • Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs appropriate work assignments in various employment programs by following task analyses and specific individualized objectives to increase the skill levels of individuals
  • Will work alongside individuals at various work sites, including the onsite business, modeling the job skills and providing direction and support.
  • Assesses instructional needs of the individual and assists in developing teaching strategies.
  • Ensure engagement of meaningful activities in order to meet their individual, vocational, and day program goals. Participates in data collection and daily progress notes.
  • Responsible for working directly with individuals and for program development based on assessment results, for ensuring that data is collected per the Individual Service Plan and for completing data on production and attendance as necessary.
  • Participate in completion of Redemption Center business production, accounting policies and procedures; assist customers, operate cash register and clean work areas.
  • Run pre-vocational skill groups. Instruct participants in job development skills through curriculum and group activities.
