About The Position

The Muscatine Community School District is seeking a Vocal Music Teacher for students in grades 9-12. This position is funded by General Operating funds and falls under the Instruction functional area, reporting to the Principal. The role is contract-based and classified as Exempt under FLSA. The normal workday is 8.0 hours, including a 25-minute duty-free lunch, with a personal planning period authorized by School Board Policy. The teacher will provide instruction to students and is expected to meet the Iowa Teaching Standards, which include enhancing academic performance, demonstrating content competence, planning and delivering effective instruction, monitoring student learning, managing the classroom, engaging in professional growth, and fulfilling professional responsibilities established by the school district.

Requirements

Appropriate State of Iowa certification prior to the start of each contract year.
Employee must be capable of working under stress with large numbers of students, parents and co-workers.
Mental acuity is required and mental and physical ability to manage classroom discipline is essential.
Oral communication skills (XX Instructional, Students, Staff, Public).
Writing skills (XX Lesson Plans, Students, Staff, Public).
Content expertise: Academic subject matter.
Knowledge of student’s needs in your classes.
Able to work well with students, teachers, counselors, parents and other job-related persons.
Ability to work within the job description with independence and to make judgments and decisions.
Audio equipment including projectors and video equipment.
Basic understanding of the operation of building systems including security, intercom, telephone, fire and alarm systems.
Operation of a personal computer that is linked to network so that the teacher can access student data, enter grades, perform on-line IEPS and receive email.
Photocopiers, Laminators, classroom and or lab equipment.
Human relations skills are essential.
