Requirements

  • High school diploma with 5+ years of experience leading a laboratory animal facility is required
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work with infectious agents, hazardous materials, and radioactive materials
  • Ability to work flexibly across different areas and participate in provision of weekend and out of hours support

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of experience leading a laboratory animal facility is preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment in animal vivariums and the physical plant
  • Experience in using technology to improve efficiencies and data reliability
  • A working knowledge in quality assurance, inventory control, supply and receiving, cage wash equipment, caging systems, types of bedding, sanitation procedures, autoclaving procedures, and material handling
  • Experience modifying or improving processes and systems, depending on the needs of the facility
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and an understanding of the range of disciplines within research

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day management of all infrastructure, supplies, and soft services of the Boston vivarium, providing support to in vivo research and multiple laboratory animal rodent species.
  • Evaluate vivarium management practices and establish clear expectations, operating procedures, and policies required to deliver consistent operations for fluctuating colonies.
  • Coordinate the ordering of feed, bedding, supplies, and equipment to support animal care and operations based on projected demand, while independently managing routine activities and resolving operational issues.
  • Provide leadership to staff and service providers to ensure work is completed to standard.
  • Oversee and/or schedule maintenance of the vivarium and all equipment through respective staff members and soft services.
  • Ensure all activities meet regulatory, safety, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Support staff development and adherence to best practices in laboratory animal science.
