Reporting to the Visual Manager and aligned with Corporate Visual guidelines, the Visual Supervisor is responsible for helping create an engaging and trend-driven shopping environment. This role supports full-price merchandise sales and overall store profitability through impactful visual presentations and promotional setups. In partnership with the Support Team Manager, the Visual Supervisor helps establish, train, and uphold merchandise presentation standards. The role involves coaching both new and existing associates on company floor standards and effective product placement. The Visual Supervisor is also responsible for interpreting and executing Corporate visual directives, ensuring seamless implementation in collaboration with the Visual Manager and the store's Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on visual merchandising experience within a high-volume, multi-level department store; portfolio of completed installations and projects required.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of carpentry and visual merchandising tools for installation and display.
  • Skilled in a variety of painting techniques, contributing to impactful visual displays and seasonal setups.
  • Strong background in fashion styling with a keen awareness of current fashion, design, and art trends.
  • Experienced in signage installation with a focus on placement, scale, and visual accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of materials, production techniques, and fabrication methods for visual displays.
  • Well-versed in design fundamentals including composition, color theory, and lighting application.
  • Technologically proficient; skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate visual concepts and collaborate across teams.
  • Quick to learn and apply Saks Fifth Avenue's visual standards, operational procedures, and internal systems.
  • Highly detail-oriented and self-motivated; thrives in fast-paced, team-oriented environments with a positive and proactive mindset.
  • Capable of both independent execution and team collaboration to complete complex visual merchandising tasks.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in Corporate Visual Standards, guiding merchandise placement and display with authority and consistency.
  • Proficient in accessorizing mannequins, forms, and shelf presentations to reflect brand identity and seasonal trends.
  • Available to assist customers by updating or changing mannequins and forms upon request.

Nice To Haves

  • Floral arrangement skills and knowledge of flower varieties is considered a valuable asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Merchandising, Design, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience accepted.

  • Leads visual innovation by introducing change and seasonal updates within assigned areas, partnering closely with the Assistant General Merchandise Manager (AGMM) and department managers to ensure alignment.
  • Supports the Visual Manager in executing floor moves, developing floor plans, calculating capacities, ordering signage, and managing scheduling logistics.
  • Designs and prepares visual collateral to support brand storytelling and promotional initiatives.
  • Submits photo documentation for all corporate-directed setups (e.g., Father’s Day, Beauty Week), ensuring timely and accurate execution.
  • Compiles and distributes meeting notes to support cross-functional alignment on visual priorities.
  • Assists in managing the visual merchandising budget, making fiscally responsible decisions to support impactful execution of visual strategies.
  • Takes on additional visual and operational responsibilities as needed to support the broader team and business objectives.
  • Ensures all assigned areas consistently reflect Corporate Visual standards through strategic merchandise placement and presentation.
  • Establishes and upholds visual floor standards, training and coaching Sales Support Team members and Sales Associates on best practices for product presentation.
  • Partners with the Sales Support Team to enhance visual impact, ensuring execution aligns with brand and corporate guidelines.
  • Oversees and directs merchandise placement on the selling floor to maintain a cohesive, visually compelling customer experience.
  • Leads and supports merchandise shop setups, seasonal installations, and floor moves, ensuring timely execution and adherence to visual directives.
  • Creates an exciting visual presentation that attracts customers, encourages shopper interest and drives sales.
  • Monitors store environment as it relates to the customer experience and ensures that concerns are appropriately elevated for resolution.
  • Assists with planning, coordination, execution, and recovery with Visual Manager, Marketing Director and store Leadership to maximize corporate and local events, both in store and at offsite locations.
  • Consistently role models and delivers the Saks Fifth Avenue customer experience, setting the standard for service excellence.
  • Fosters strong collaboration within the Visual team and across selling teams to ensure seamless execution and shared goals.
  • Mentors Visual team members to enhance styling skills and deepen their understanding of brand presentation and category-specific nuances.
