About The Position

The Visual Merchandising Lead creates and maintains visual merchandising displays for Moana Nursery’s Moana Lane store, partnering with the Visual Merchandising Manager, Store Teams, Marketing, Store Managers, and Buyers/Merchants to execute visual direction, standards, promotional displays, signage coordination, and seasonal merchandising. The role translates product priorities, seasonal opportunities, marketing campaigns, and customer needs into clear, shoppable, safe, and inspiring store presentations that support retail sales goals, average ticket growth, promotions, customer inspiration, and store ambiance. The position personally builds and maintains displays and develops merchandising systems that can be executed consistently while allowing appropriate creative freedom. It covers total-store merchandising, including live and non-live goods, with special emphasis on live goods, which are central to Moana Nursery’s customer promise, seasonal identity, and retail experience. This is a full-time, year-round position, generally scheduled Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required during major seasonal changeouts, promotional launches, signage audits, retail-tainment setups, and peak retail periods. Work may sometimes occur on weekends, early mornings, or after normal business hours. The role requires travel between Moana Nursery’s three retail locations and work indoors and outdoors in a retail nursery environment.

Requirements

Previous retail experience.
Strong experience in visual merchandising, retail presentation, product merchandising, decorating, design, or store environments.
Ability to create compelling displays and product presentations that support sales, customer experience, and average ticket growth.
Ability to turn promotions, seasonal themes, product priorities, and customer needs into clear store execution direction.
Strong understanding of customer flow, product visibility, signage placement, display balance, color, scale, and visual storytelling.
Ability to execute visual merchandising guides, photo examples, and display direction that store teams can execute and maintain.
Ability to collaborate with the Visual Merchandising Manager, Store Managers, Marketing, and Buyers/Merchants.
Ability to review sales performance, promotional results, and GMROI opportunities with Merchants and the Visual Merchandising Manager.
Strong organizational skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to lift 40 lbs.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout stores for extended periods.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a retail nursery environment.
Ability to safely move light fixtures, signs, props, display materials, plants, pottery, gift items, and other retail products as needed.
Willingness to travel between Moana Nursery’s three retail locations.
Ability to work occasional weekends, early mornings, or after normal business hours for major seasonal changeouts, promotional launches, and important retail presentation needs.

Plant knowledge and garden center experience.
Experience in garden center, nursery, home décor, floral, seasonal retail, lifestyle retail, or specialty retail merchandising.
Experience supporting promotional campaigns or seasonal retail changeouts.
Experience with signage coordination, retail audits, or store presentation standards.
Experience creating or working with planograms or merchandising layout maps.
Experience using sales data to guide merchandising decisions.
Creative background in design, styling, art, retail presentation, or visual communication.

Responsibilities

Uphold Moana Nursery’s strict safety policies.
Create visual merchandising displays across all areas of the Moana Lane store.
Execute promotional displays for promotional categories in partnership with the Visual Merchandising Manager.
Execute major seasonal merchandising changeouts, including Spring, Summer, Halloween, and Christmas.
Work with the Visual Merchandising Manager and Marketing to support promotions with effective signage and compelling in-store displays.
Execute store layout, customer flow, promotional feature areas, product adjacencies, and merchandising zones with Store Managers and the Visual Merchandising Manager.
Work with Merchants and Store Management Teams to evaluate sales performance, promotional results, GMROI opportunities, seasonal priorities, traffic-driving items, and categories that merit visual support.
Recommend display-related needs, including fixtures, props, reusable materials, seasonal accent pieces, and build-out resources.
Assist Buyers/Merchants and Store Managers with merchandising ideas to help move stagnant or slow-selling inventory.
Help create customer-facing retail-tainment moments, such as seasonal displays, photo-op areas, launch weekend presentations, holiday experiences, workshop-support displays, and memorable store moments.
Ensure merchandising supports safe, accessible, easy-to-shop stores, including clear walkways, stable displays, ADA-friendly shopping paths, irrigation access, replenishment needs, cart movement, and store operations.
Execute a shared merchandising calendar connecting promotions, seasonal changeouts, signage deadlines, execution timelines, audits, coaching follow-up, and post-promotion review.
Personally build and maintain store displays.
