About The Position

The Visual Dimensional Inspector SSBO is responsible for visually and dimensionally inspecting castings to ensure they meet customer specifications. This role also ensures that only necessary reworking of parts is performed. The inspector will identify surface defects, assure dimensional integrity, and support engineering efforts in addressing product quality issues. This position requires adherence to safety protocols and may involve training and directing others. The role involves working with various inspection tools and potentially difficult working conditions.

Requirements

  • Visual and dimensional inspection skills to use precision measuring inspection tools.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow specifications on Tech Cards and other technical material.
  • Ability to write and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to perform dimensional inspection applying proper techniques.
  • Ability to read precision hand tools.
  • 20/30 correctable vision.
  • Satisfactory passage of depth perception and color vision tests.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and awkward physical positions for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Visual/Dimensional course at time of hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect castings after preliminary and final heat treating to identify surface defects.
  • Dimensionally inspect castings using templates, micrometers, height gauges, calipers, and ultrasound to ensure conformance to blueprint and tech card specifications.
  • Check casting hardness using Brinell, Rockwell, and other instruments per heat treat specifications.
  • Mark castings to identify areas needing rework to meet dimensional specifications.
  • Work with Straightening, Salvage, and Targeting areas.
  • Work with engineering to establish and evaluate inspection techniques.
  • Identify and resolve problems of non-conformance to specifications with engineering.
  • Enter dimensional data into a computer for engineering purposes.
  • Prepare reports and information on dimensional issues.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Provide training and work direction to others as directed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
