About The Position

Bring your creativity to the community as a Visual Arts Instructor by teaching engaging art classes for adults and developing your own curriculum in the art medium you know best. You’ll create welcoming, hands-on learning experiences while helping support class preparation, studio operations and art programming at Boise Parks and Recreation locations. Hours per week vary depending upon class demand. This position is designated as At-Will.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of several two- and three-dimensional art mediums.
  • In-depth knowledge of and ability to instruct art classes in a wide variety of mediums including, but not limited to: drawing, painting, printmaking, and clay.
  • Must have adequate transportation in order to teach classes at various elementary schools as well as at Boise Parks & Recreation locations.
  • Candidates will be responsible for the participants and their safety during the class.
  • Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations.
  • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Complete assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years experience teaching art as well as working with individuals with disabilities
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Works with and instructs adult art students.
  • Plans lessons, gathers supplies, and prepares as well as cleans up the classroom/project.
  • Creates own curriculum based on the particular art medium being taught.
  • Assists program coordinator with class scheduling, studio maintenance, and art supply inventory and purchasing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
