About The Position

The Visitor Experience and Education Assistant is a highly visible, public-facing role and serves as an initial point of contact for ICP’s School, Library, and administrative offices. Acting as an ambassador for the institution, this position supports a welcoming, informed, and inclusive visitor experience for students, faculty, staff, and museum guests. This role combines visitor experience support with education and library assistance, helping ensure smooth daily operations across ICP’s public spaces, classrooms, and research facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; background in photography or visual culture a plus
  • Two years of administrative or office experience preferred
  • Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to hospitality and inclusion
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid computer proficiency, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfort interacting with the public in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of photography and visual culture preferred
  • Foreign language proficiency a plus

Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICP exhibitions, programs, classes, events, and daily operations
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for ICP’s main phone lines and in-person inquiries, responding clearly, professionally, and courteously
  • Conduct daily opening checks, ensuring public spaces are prepared for visitors, including lighting, doors, computers, and audiovisual equipment
  • Monitor public areas for safety, cleanliness, and functionality; report issues to appropriate departments
  • Follow established security procedures and report unsafe or inappropriate situations promptly
  • Support daily closing procedures, including securing doors, turning off lights, and ensuring all public spaces are vacated
  • Serve as a liaison between faculty, students, and the Education Office
  • Respond to education-related inquiries by phone, email, and in person, directing requests as appropriate
  • Welcome School visitors, check IDs, and assist with wayfinding throughout the building
  • Greet Library visitors and provide general information about library use
  • Assist students, faculty, and researchers with locating and retrieving library materials
  • Process library book returns and support reshelving in accordance with library procedures
  • Distribute faculty and student IDs and assist with resolving ID-related issues
  • Prepare and post daily classroom schedules and communicate schedule changes as needed
  • Monitor and respond to education inbox inquiries as assigned
  • Provide weekly activity reports as requested
  • Welcome and assist prospective students
  • Support Public Programs with event setup, particularly for programs held in the Library
  • Staff doors for lectures and public programs
