Visiting Student - CSE - Kraft, Julia - 10.02.26

Argonne National Laboratory•Lemont, IL
•Onsite

About The Position

The student will study the electrochemistry of lanthanides within complexes synthesized at their home institution. The compounds will vary in structure and the students will consider different lanthanides. The student will measure each element's reduction potential and will probe the electrochemical reversibility of the metal complex. The student will also complete x-ray spectroscopy work at the APS to probe the extended structures of the complexes, including in situ electrochemical reduction.

Requirements

  • The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution.
  • Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or
  • Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
  • Bring synthesized compounds from their home institute.
  • Basic electrochemistry.
  • Lanthanide chemistry.
  • Extended x-ray fine structure spectroscopy.
  • X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy.
