About The Position

The Science Systems Center at Schmidt Sciences is hiring a 12-month Visiting Scientist focused on bibliometrics and the science of science. The position combines improving how the organization assesses its programs’ outcomes with helping shape its perspective on scholarly infrastructure and the scientific record as AI changes how research is produced, published, discovered, and verified. Early-career researchers and mid-career or senior researchers on sabbatical may be considered. Start dates are flexible. Reporting to the Director of the Science Systems Center, the Visiting Scientist will work with the Science Systems team to strengthen impact measurement across the Center’s portfolio and help shape future strategic directions in scholarly infrastructure and the scientific record. Responsibilities are developed jointly with the individual and their manager and may change over time. Approximately 80% of the role is devoted to portfolio impact and strategy, and approximately 20% to independent science-of-science research using publicly available or independently obtained data. The position is based on-site in New York and requires regular travel within the U.S. and internationally as needed. It is a 12-month exempt position with an annual salary of $155,000–$185,000.
