Visiting Researcher, Meta Superintelligence Labs

Meta•Menlo Park, CA
•$122,000 - $143,000

About The Position

Meta is seeking a Visiting Researcher to join Meta Superintelligence Labs. The role focuses on fundamental and applied research advancing embodied artificial intelligence, with work spanning areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and embodied AI. Relevant research topics include transfer learning, learning from demonstration, reinforcement learning, action-conditioned world models, perception, representation learning, robot control, navigation, mobile and dexterous manipulation, and vision-language models. The researcher will help produce new open science to make embodied agents more intelligent, develop and benchmark new capabilities, and pursue research objectives over both long-term goals and intermediate milestones.

Requirements

  • Currently has or is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience; the degree must be completed before joining Meta.
  • Experience in one or more of the following research areas: robotics, motion planning, embodied AI, human-robot interaction, sim-to-real transfer, learning from demonstration, reinforcement learning, dexterous manipulation, digital agents, vision-language models, computer vision, egocentric perception, or large language models.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment by the time of hire and maintain authorization during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated research and software engineering experience through an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used open-source contributions, such as GitHub projects.
  • Experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS, robot simulations, and real-world hardware.
  • Experience building systems using machine learning and/or deep learning methods.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing complex, large-scale, high-dimensional data from varying sources.
  • Currently has or is pursuing a master’s or PhD in artificial intelligence, robotics, computer vision, machine learning, language, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow and with Python.
  • Experience in robotics-related research such as robot learning, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, action-conditioned world models, task and motion planning, sim-to-real transfer, robotic control, manipulation, navigation, or embodied AI generally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fundamental and applied research to advance the scientific and technological frontiers of embodied artificial intelligence.
  • Invent or improve data-driven paradigms for robotics using modalities such as images, video, text, audio, and tactile data.
  • Investigate approaches for a spectrum of embodied behaviors, from simulated characters to real robots, and from short-horizon, low-level behavior to long-horizon, high-level intelligence.
  • Develop algorithms using state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies.
  • Build and benchmark capabilities needed for the next generation of AI.
  • Conduct research toward long-term goals while identifying intermediate milestones.
  • Execute novel research based on the organization’s long-term objectives.
