About The Position

The Visiting Research Scientist in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology will investigate interactions among T cells, neurons, microglia, and astrocytes in autoimmune diseases. The work includes advanced scientific and experimental methods, including experiments with animals and autoimmune disease animal models, including central nervous system autoimmune disease models. The scientist will conduct research using conventional and gnotobiotic mouse models, molecular analyses, histopathology, multicolor flow cytometry, multicolor immunohistochemistry, and multi-omics approaches such as RNA sequencing and metabolomics. The position also involves laboratory research, data analysis and reporting, mentoring trainees, participating in laboratory oversight, preparing grant applications and research reports, publishing findings, presenting at professional meetings, and developing research designs or techniques.

  • Previous experience working with autoimmune mouse models.
  • Experience with mouse models, including parabiosis, and multicolor flow cytometry.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments investigating cell-cell interactions within inflamed mouse tissues using conventional and gnotobiotic mouse models, molecular analyses, histopathology, multicolor flow cytometry, multicolor immunohistochemistry, and multi-omics approaches such as RNA-seq and metabolomics.
  • Perform molecular and cellular experiments to investigate genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying microbe-host interactions, using cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry tools, cell-based assays, and gnotobiotic and conventional mouse models.
  • Conduct laboratory research, analyze data and information, and evaluate and report findings to the PI.
