About The Position

The Department of Philosophy at Wesleyan University is seeking a one-semester non-tenure-track Visiting Professor of Philosophy to begin January 1, 2027. While the specific area of specialization (AOS/AOC) is open, the department has a particular interest in candidates whose work focuses on animals and/or political philosophy. Wesleyan University is a highly selective liberal arts college that highly values both scholarship and teaching, serving a strong and diverse undergraduate student body. The teaching load for this one-semester visiting position is two courses, which will be selected based on the candidate's teaching strengths. The role does not include advising duties. All offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy in hand by the time of appointment (or may be hired as Visiting Instructor if Ph.D. is not yet in hand).
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to embrace the college's commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
  • Provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, writing sample, and documentation of teaching experience (teaching statement, course syllabi, student evaluations).
  • Provide email addresses of three referees for confidential letters of recommendation.
