The Department of Writing and Rhetoric (DWR) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking applicants for a visiting, non-tenure earning, instructor or lecturer position, renewable for up to four years, with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2026. This 9-month appointment includes a 4/4 course teaching load annually, with potential for summer teaching in a writing studies-focused first-year writing program. UCF’s first-year composition program serves over 6,000 students annually and is guided by collaborative student learning outcomes. The DWR faculty possess diverse expertise in rhetoric and composition, employing various teaching approaches. The successful candidate will work full-time in the first-year composition program, with possible opportunities to teach upper-level undergraduate writing courses. Teaching modalities may include face-to-face, mediated/hybrid, and fully online. All faculty in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric report to the department chair. As an independent writing department, DWR comprises 12 tenure-earning faculty, 35 full-time non-tenure earning instructors and lecturers, and 15 graduate teaching assistants. The department offers comprehensive writing instruction, including a first-year composition program, an undergraduate major (B.A.) and minor, and a graduate program with an M.A. and certificate in professional writing. Additionally, the department offers an undergraduate certificate in Medical Writing and Rhetoric and a Public and Professional Writing certificate. It also houses the college's new interdisciplinary certificate in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Human Impacts, reflecting DWR's commitment to leadership in discussions around emergent technologies and their consequences. The department includes the Center for Writing Excellence, which encompasses the University Writing Center and the Writing Across the Curriculum program. UCF provides professional development and advancement opportunities through its Center for Teaching and Learning, Office of Faculty Excellence, and Center for Distributed Learning for faculty at all ranks.
