About The Position
The Psychology Department at Berea College invites applicants for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Psychology, with appointment beginning August 2027. Candidates with previous experience teaching courses in Statistics and Research Methods are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will provide evidence of their potential for excellent teaching, as well as the ability to mentor and involve undergraduates in their research. Candidates must have completed a PhD or the equivalent psychology or related discipline by time of appointment (Fall 2027). Primary teaching responsibilities should include courses in Statistics and Research Methods and Introductory Psychology. In addition, faculty may teach a course in the candidate’s area of expertise, ideally complementing current faculty areas of expertise. The full-time course load is three courses per semester. Candidates will have access to recently remodeled state-of-the-art teaching and shared laboratory facilities, including a 64-channel EEG and eye-tracking system. Following long-standing tradition and practice at Berea College, this position includes responsibility for supervising, mentoring, and developing students in the College's integrated Work College Program. This supports student learning, career readiness, and the program's learning goals and outcomes. The Work College Program provides a developmental framework that guides student learning while creating a structured mentorship opportunity, with role-specific training that equips faculty and staff mentors to support student development. Faculty and staff mentors play an essential part in helping students connect their work-learning-service experiences with broader academic, professional, and personal development. For faculty, this aligns with Berea's tenure and promotion criteria.
Requirements
- Completed a PhD or the equivalent in psychology or a related discipline by time of appointment (Fall 2027)
- Previous experience teaching courses in Statistics and Research Methods
- Evidence of potential for excellent teaching
- Ability to mentor and involve undergraduates in their research
