Visiting Assistant Professor in Musicology
About The Position
The School of Music invites applicants for an appointment of Visiting Assistant Professor in Musicology, beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about contemporary pedagogical approaches in musicology, broadly defined, at the undergraduate level. Full load teaching requirements will include (but are not limited to) courses in: Western music history before 1900, American popular music history, and global musics. Other responsibilities are assigned by the Director of the School of Music depending on qualifications and experience.
Requirements
- PhD degree in musicology or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Experience teaching at the university level as an instructor of record or teaching assistant.
- Ability to teach undergraduate music history and global musics courses.
- Knowledgeable about contemporary pedagogical approaches in musicology, broadly defined, at the undergraduate level.

- Experience as instructor of record and/or other expertise in early Western music.
- Experience as instructor of record and/or other expertise in American popular music.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate music history and global musics courses.
- Teach courses in Western music history before 1900.

- Fulfill other responsibilities assigned by the Director of the School of Music depending on qualifications and experience.
- Prepare a 45–60-minute instructional presentation if selected for an interview.
