Vision Zero Technician
About The Position
The City of Windsor is seeking a Vision Zero Technician to support the implementation and monitoring of initiatives aligned with the Vision Zero Road Safety Plan. This role involves collecting and analyzing traffic data, investigating traffic-related complaints, and making recommendations to improve road safety. The technician will prepare work orders, maintain traffic and collision databases, and draft reports for Council approval. They will utilize specialized Traffic Engineering Software to evaluate traffic patterns and road safety conditions, investigate public and agency concerns, and conduct site visits to assess safety hazards and propose solutions. The position also involves preparing work orders for safety improvements, ensuring compliance with Vision Zero principles, drafting technical reports and by-law amendments, coordinating with internal departments and external stakeholders, and engaging in community outreach and educational efforts to promote road safety awareness. The role also includes performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program and other related duties as required.
Requirements
- A three (3) year post-secondary school Community College Diploma in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering Technology or related field or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency
- Over three (3) years of experience in traffic engineering or road safety
- Must hold and maintain a current valid and lawful Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purpose of operating a City of Windsor vehicle and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment
- Knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM) and the Highway Traffic Act
- Familiarity with Vision Zero principles and practices
- Strong technical report writing and presentation skills

Responsibilities

- Coordinating with internal departments and external stakeholders to advance Vision Zero goals
- Engaging in community outreach and educational efforts to promote road safety awareness
- Performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program
- Performing other related duties as required
