The Virtual School Teacher engages students in an online/virtual environment, utilizing effective strategies to foster self-discipline, time management, and continuous progress, alongside social-emotional development. This role requires technological fluency in general and teaching-specific technologies, a flexible schedule, and a high degree of self-discipline and organization. The teacher will monitor and grade student work, provide feedback within 24-48 hours, and coach students and families on the use of virtual learning technologies. They will act as a liaison between students, parents, and school staff, communicating regularly via Zoom, email, or phone. Daily/weekly progress monitoring and proactive interventions are key, as are administrative tasks such as tracking grades, managing schedules, and facilitating technology device distribution and technical issue resolution. Data analysis is crucial for informing instruction and differentiation. The teacher must adhere to all local, state, and federal policies and engage students in accordance with district-approved software, schedules, and objectives. Clear communication of deadlines, schedules, and procedures is essential, along with collaboration with school counselors, administrators, and support staff to address student concerns and social-emotional development. Parent-teacher conferences are required at least once per semester, and coordination with the District Testing Coordinator for assessments is necessary. Strategies promoting digital citizenship and a safe virtual learning environment are also part of the role.
