About The Position

Provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. The Virtual Safety Attendant verbally redirects patients from engaging in at-risk behaviors and summons nursing staff if the patient requires assistance via a communication device and/or Stat Alarm. This role requires knowledge and support of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies.

Requirements

  • Must have dedicated attention to observing patients with no outside distractions.
  • No personal cell phone use.
  • Never leave monitor station unattended. If you need to step away, call for backup first.
  • No food and/or drink in patient care areas.
  • Keep your workspace clean and tidy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
  • Verbally redirects the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors.
  • Summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance by communication device and/or Stat Alarm.
  • Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies.
  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the use of the AvaSure® software.
  • Maintains visual observation at all times.
  • Wears headset at all times and verbally redirects patient using the digital 2-way audio feature.
  • Provides prompt notification of appropriate clinical staff if patient requires assistance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care to patient population requiring video monitoring.
  • Participates in report with virtual safety attendant when arriving for shift and upon completion of shift. Reviews pertinent information and behaviors.
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
  • Monitors for and maintains patient environmental safety. Notifies clinical staff of potential safety hazards.
  • Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to primary caregiver.
  • Demonstrates a safe work practices and attitude.
  • Maintains documentation.
