About The Position

BookNook is seeking talented USA-based math and reading tutors available to support students across the United States. Tutors will work with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions using the BookNook virtual classroom and provided lesson content. This is an opportunity to make a positive impact on students' learning journeys. Tutors should be available for at least one hour Monday through Thursday between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET, with the potential to claim additional sessions outside of these hours. Tutoring opportunities and hours may vary weekly. The role follows the school year, from September to May, with sessions typically being 30 minutes long. Tutors are expected to attend at least 80% of claimed sessions to provide students with stable support. Peak student demand is between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET, which is the best way to build a tutoring schedule. BookNook offers flexibility, allowing tutors to drop sessions if needed, with peer coverage available. The role involves delivering pre-designed math lessons to provide targeted support for students often seeking to improve skills at or below grade level. Tutors must be able to build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging learning environment.

Requirements

• Tutors must be USA-based.
• Availability for at least one hour Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday within the time range of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET.
• College degree preferred.
• Experience as a classroom teacher, EL/ESL/ELL, tutoring, coaching, or similar student support.
• Online instruction experience.
• Ability to build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging and motivating learning environment.
• A computer (laptop or desktop) with a webcam.
• A clean and distraction-free environment.
• Reliable, high-speed internet connection of at least 20 mbps.
• Reside and tutor from one of the specified states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Washington, or Washington DC.
• All sessions must be conducted from within the 50 United States or Washington, DC.
• Ready to actively participate in the application and onboarding process.
• Willingness to submit a 5-minute one-way recorded demonstration of tutoring style.
• Willingness to participate in a 15-minute virtual meeting.
• Ability to complete onboarding steps including setting up a payment account and passing an in-person fingerprint-based FBI background check.
• Completion of a paid, self-paced BookNook tutor certification.
