About The Position

BookNook is seeking talented USA-based math tutors to support school districts across the United States. Tutors will meet with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions using the BookNook virtual classroom and fully provided lesson content. This is an opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on students by supporting them on their learning journey. Tutors are expected to deliver pre-designed, best-practice math lessons to provide targeted support for students often seeking to improve skills and topics at or below grade level. Tutors must be able to build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging and motivating learning environment with supportive student corrections. The role follows the school year, September to May, with most sessions being 30 minutes long. Tutors are eligible for 1099 independent contractor status.

Requirements

  • Must be USA-based.
  • Available to tutor weekdays at least one hour between 4 pm to 7 pm ET.
  • Ready to actively participate in the application and onboarding process.
  • Must reside in and tutor from one of the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Washington, or Washington DC.
  • All sessions must be conducted from within the 50 United States or Washington, DC.
  • A computer (laptop or desktop).
  • A webcam.
  • A clean and distraction-free environment.
  • Reliable, high-speed internet connection speed of at least 20 mbps.
  • Ability to claim at least 80% of sessions claimed.
  • Classroom teacher, EL/ESL/ELL, tutoring, coaching, or similar student support experience.
  • Online instruction experience.
  • A college degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Potentially submit a 5-minute one-way recorded demonstration of tutoring style using provided BookNook sample lesson content.
  • Potentially schedule and attend a 15-minute virtual meeting with a BookNook team member.
  • Complete onboarding steps including setting up a payment account, sharing a clear result on an in-person fingerprint-based FBI background check, and completion of a paid, self-paced BookNook tutor certification.
