About The Position

BookNook is seeking talented USA-based math tutors to support school districts across the United States. Tutors will meet with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions using the BookNook virtual classroom and provided lesson content. This is an opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on students by supporting them on their learning journey. Tutors are expected to deliver pre-designed, best-practice math lessons to provide targeted support for students often seeking to improve skills and topics at or below grade level. The role requires the ability to build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging and motivating learning environment with supportive student corrections. Tutors must reside in and tutor from one of the specified states within the 50 United States or Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • Availability for at least one hour Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET.
  • A computer (laptop or desktop), webcam.
  • A clean and distraction-free environment.
  • Reliable, high-speed internet connection speed of at least 20 mbps.
  • Reside in and tutor from one of the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Washington, or Washington DC.
  • All sessions must be conducted from within the 50 United States or Washington, DC.
  • Submit an application online.
  • Applicants may be invited to submit a 5 minute one-way recorded introduction and demonstration of their tutoring style with provided BookNook sample lesson content.
  • Begin onboarding steps such as setting up a payment account, sharing a clear result on an in-person fingerprint-based FBI background check (reimbursed up to a maximum of $99), and completion of onboarding steps, paid onboarding when completed within 7 days of signing a tutor agreement.

Nice To Haves

  • Classroom teacher, EL/ESL/ELL, tutoring, coaching, or similar student support experience.
  • Online instruction experience.
  • College degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring instruction in a virtual classroom.
  • Maintain virtual student behavior and engagement.
  • Provide students with practice time and guide with supportive corrections.
  • Deliver pre-designed, best-practice math lessons.

  • Attend at least 80% of sessions claimed to provide students stable support.
