About The Position

The purpose of your role as a Virtual Construction Technical Associate is to effectively and collaboratively manage and lead medium-sized or significant portions of larger projects in producing detailed, constructible BIM models and drawings based on contract documents, design criteria, Harris standards, and instructions throughout all construction phases. In a virtual construction role, you will take on team leadership, set and delegate all tasks, and empower the HDS team to deliver all necessary documentation/data for sign-off. In either a leading or supporting virtual fabrication role, you will ensure that the necessary fabrication and installation information is shown on drawings. You will strategize and incorporate pragmatic, cost-effective, and strategic processes and practices to maximize productivity. Additionally, you will develop the project team’s skills and provide ongoing support to ensure timely and accurate project deliverables. You will coach, mentor, and instill knowledge to less experienced team members in Harris and industry best practices, and supervise team members to follow Harris business needs and support their personal growth and development.

Requirements

  • 8+ Years in a corporate environment delivering BIM/VDC services
  • 8+ Years being a project leader on a mid-size to large Mechanical Project
  • 8+ Years experience with BIM/VDC workflows and industry standards
  • 8+ Years experience with BIM/VDC software related to mechanical building systems
  • 8+ Years experience of the building and construction industry
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings and documents
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles.
  • Knowledge of mechanical building codes

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the correct setup and organization of ACC data for integration with shop drawings, ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Take ownership of the setup of shop drawing files according to the defined project scope.
  • Know, understand, and communicate the defined project scope.
  • Direct the population of BIM information for mechanical, piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems and equipment.
  • Direct the correct use of project and company instruction to adhere to building codes, construction standards, and contract documents.
  • Actively highlight missing or additional information needed to complete work, holding the right entities accountable to ensure delivery as needed.
  • Delegate, direct, and instruct on the optimal placement and routing for piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems to meet contract document intent while planning for supporting systems, minimizing fittings, streamlining routing, and avoiding other trades.
  • Identify and communicate any unavoidable conflicts/clashes, issues, or ambiguities to project leadership for clarification or direction.
  • Ensure all components and systems are accurately represented per company standards.
  • Work with VDC Constructability managers to optimize the most appropriate standards and installation practices assumed for the project.
  • Direct, manage, and coordinate multidiscipline models for mechanical piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems.
  • Lead project team in re-routing piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork as necessary.
  • Drive technical discussions and reasonings on which systems or trades should take priority or finding the best overall project solution.
  • Leverage expertise in constructability issues and construction sequences to assist with better coordination.
  • Lead creation of sign-off record drawings.
  • Undertake preparation of technical drawing submittals.
  • Manage and ensure the identification and preparation of information for RFIs to resolve clashes or other technical challenges.
  • Lead and maximize impact in project meetings as needed to support coordination.
  • Instruct and manage the needs for text, tags, and dimensions to complete fabrication and installation drawings & other supporting sketches and/or details per company standards.
  • Direct and prepare final piping/plumbing spool sheets/BOM as required and/or MAJ files.
  • Lead revisions required per QA/QC.
  • Oversee work of others to ensure quality.
  • Ensure and advise on the adherence to HDS standards and best practices.
  • Advise and strategize on industry best practices and standards (such as COBiE and ISO 19650).
  • Work closely with fabrication shops and facilities to streamline design/detailing processes and drive efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and align teams to ensure expectations are met.
  • Champion and foster the development of High-Performing Teams.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor HDS personnel to enhance performance and growth.
  • Develop and manage weekly work plans, including a 6-week look-ahead for small to medium-sized projects.
  • Review, communicate, and manage labor requirements to ensure project needs are met.
  • Review and validate the work of team members for quality and accuracy.
  • Drive issues to the most appropriate resolution assessing risks and opportunities.
  • Support and encourage the whole team with unexpected challenges, setting priorities and removing constraints.
  • Increase prefabrication through technology and processes.
  • Self-check all work.
  • Contributes to the desired safety and work culture of the organization.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
  • Supervise less experienced team members.
