About The Position

The Violence Interrupter will work within the community to identify and mediate potentially violent conflicts before they escalate. This role involves direct engagement with individuals at high risk of involvement in gun violence, providing mentorship, crisis intervention, and referrals to supportive services. Violence Interrupters are expected to work 40 hours per week according to site specific hours

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Lived experience in affected communities is strongly preferred.
  • Background in social work, counseling, or community organizations is a plus
  • Four (4) years of experience in youth development, violence prevention, and/or case management.
  • Extensive experience working with at-risk youth and adults.
  • Strong Communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license and current auto insurance coverage is required
  • Bilingual (Spanish) Speaking is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct street outreach in neighborhoods with high rates of violence.
  • Intervene in conflicts to prevent escalation and retaliation.
  • Build relationships with community members, especially youth and families.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, schools, and law enforcement.
  • Document interactions and outcomes for program tracking. (As scheduled by OEMII)
