About The Position

WHIO TV Dayton is looking for a Photographer/Videographer who is creative with an eye for composition and an ear for sound. If you like a challenge and have experience behind the camera, we want to hear from you! This role involves shooting and editing compelling local news stories, operating professional video equipment, and collaborating with reporters to meet daily deadlines in a high-pressure environment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, capable of gathering content independently, working in various weather conditions, and maintaining news vehicles. The position requires flexibility in shifts, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, and encourages bringing story ideas and creative energy to the job daily. There may be a need to fill in as a Show Editor on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience working as a videographer and/or direct education
  • 2 years of non-linear editing experience, preferably Avid editing software
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Ability to generate live shots and packages with high production values is a must
  • Must have all requisite skills with technology, non-linear editing solutions and state-of-the-art newsroom production and rundown system

Nice To Haves

  • A college degree in Journalism or TV Broadcasting
  • Having a Part107 remote pilot drone license is a plus
  • Experience and demonstrated ability with original graphics

Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit compelling local news stories that are clear and easy to understand.
  • Operate and maintain a professional video camera and related news gathering equipment, including laptop, iPhone, LiveU and drones.
  • Be familiar with and understand non-linear editing techniques to meet deadlines and create high-impact stories.
  • Understand how to troubleshoot equipment issues (camera, laptop or ENG equipment) and technical aspects of the job.
  • Collaborate with reporters to turn creative and visual stories, active live shot / teases and make sure daily deadlines are met in high pressure situations.
  • Gather VO, VO-SOT and NAT sound packages independently.
  • Work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Maintain news vehicles for safe operation, keeping up with scheduled maintenance and having a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work all shifts scheduled, including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Bring story ideas and creative energy to the job every day.
  • Fill in as Show Editor on an as needed basis.
