About The Position

The Video Production Specialist (VPS 2) works alongside VPS 1 to deliver a comprehensive range of video and live event production services in support of the Thunderbird Studio & Events productions. This role supports studio-based productions, live-streamed and in-person events, and multi-camera video productions, contributing to immersive global learning, campus events, and external engagements. The individual is technically proficient, adaptable, and creatively minded, contributing to a high-performance team in a higher-education context. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Digital Initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in film/media production, Multimedia, Communications or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience in video production, editing and live-streaming environments (studio or field) and event production
  • Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition) and familiarity with motion graphics/asset creation
  • Experience with professional video cameras, lighting and audio capture; field or studio live production experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with event AV systems, including camera setup, audio routing, switchers, encoders, and IP-based video workflows (e.g., NDI)
  • Demonstrated experience in live event video production, including multi-camera directing or technical directing
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple projects, and deliver timely, high-quality results in a team environment
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders (faculty, event teams).
  • Experience with Client-facing event support
  • Flexible schedule, comfort with occasional unscheduled tasks (live event support, troubleshooting) and occasional travel
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts and methods applied to multimedia audio and/or video editing and postproduction procedures, techniques and standards
  • Ability to plan, implement and direct events, video recording, streaming, graphics, audio/visual and associated operations utilizing audio and/or video recording, mastering and editing techniques
  • Familiar with AV event production equipment and systems

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the scheduling, planning, and execution of studio productions, live-streamed events, and in-person events, including academic, executive, and external-facing programs
  • Operate cameras, lighting, audio gear, and streaming hardware under direction of the Production Lead or in collaboration with VPS 1
  • Produce post-production deliverables: edit video footage, integrate graphics and PowerPoint assets, apply corrections, encode for platforms (web, LMS, event archive)
  • Create supporting assets such as lower-third graphics, intro/outro animations, simple motion-graphics, and manage basic PowerPoint/slide edits per stakeholder requests
  • Support live-stream operations: assist set-up, monitor streaming quality, switch between cameras or feeds, troubleshoot issues during live event coverage
  • Archive and tag media assets, collaborate on maintaining a project repository, assist in media asset management and retrieval
  • Work with the team to ensure brand and accessibility standards (captioning, audio levels, visual consistency) are met for all video deliverables
  • Collaborate with the graphic designers, creative learning experience designers and other departments to align video-production workflows with design, learning, and visual-brand needs
  • Assist with free-lance / student-staff or vendor coordination when required (e.g., additional camera operators at events)
  • Participate in equipment maintenance, inventory, and recommends updates or new gear to enhance production capability
  • Contribute to process improvements: workflows, templates, documentation, best practices for studio/live production.
  • Occasional evening/weekend work and travel to event venues as needed
  • Periodic weekend availability required based on department needs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
