About The Position

Semafor is seeking a passionate and self-starting video journalist for a paid, entry-level Newsroom Fellow position on its video team. This role involves supporting the team with administrative tasks, research, and crucially, the production and editing of video content across Semafor's diverse coverage areas, including geopolitics, climate change, technology, science, culture, business and finance, and American politics. The fellow will collaborate closely with reporters and editors to transform stories into engaging social video formats while upholding high journalistic standards. This position is based in our NYC offices.

Requirements

A strong passion for quality video production and business journalism.
A passion for world events and issues and a broad interest in a wide range of subjects.
A willingness to take on a variety of tasks and responsibilities.
Strong understanding and experience working in Adobe, specifically Premiere Pro and After Effects.
An understanding of various video platforms and the type of video that audiences expect to consume.
Must retain the right to work where they live.

Responsibilities

Provide critical administrative, video production, editing, research, and logistical support for Semafor across multiple verticals within a small team.
Identify topics from the newsroom that are suitable for strong social video content by staying informed on a broad range of issues.
Collaborate closely with the editorial team and work seamlessly across all of Semafor to produce videos for all channels.
Work with reporters to adapt their stories into scripts appropriate for social video, maintaining best-in-class journalism standards.
Assist on-site or virtually during Semafor events to ensure newsworthy clips are published after live interviews.
Work with other video producers and editors on various production needs that arise in a continuous news cycle.
