Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Observer provides constant observation and support to patients who have been identified as a potential risk to themselves or others. The Patient Observer assists with patient-related tasks based on individual needs while maintaining patient confidentiality and following hospital policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
- some healthcare experience 0-1 year preferred
- Ability to remain alert for extended periods of time.
- Ability to verbally calm patients.
- Ability to perform calmly and quickly in stressful situations.
- Ability to read, write and speak English clearly.
Responsibilities
- Maintain constant observation of assigned patient(s).
- Monitor patients for changes in behavior or condition and promptly communicate concerns to the RN.
- Document care and observations as required.
- Receive and provide detailed handoff information regarding the patient and their status.
- Assist patients with feeding as directed by the RN.
- Assist in the event of a patient fall according to hospital procedures.
- Maintain patient safety, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
