About The Position

Complex is seeking a talented and driven Video Editor to join its Post Production team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling, fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects & Photoshop, and comfortable in a fast-paced editorial environment. The Video Editor will be instrumental in shaping the visual content for one of the most influential brands in pop culture. This is a temporary freelance position with the potential for extension, focusing on creating engaging digital content including YouTube series, social-first videos, sizzles, and sponsored content. The role demands a combination of creative editing skills, technical expertise, and efficient project management.

Requirements

• 4-8 years of experience editing digital-first content.
• A portfolio demonstrating work on longform interviews, vertical video series, and sizzle reels.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
• Strong skills in Adobe After Effects.
• A keen eye for storytelling, pacing, rhythm, and visual polish.
• Technical precision in editing.
• Experience working under tight deadlines and managing multiple projects efficiently.
• Clear, proactive communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in collaborative creative environments.
• Availability to work on-site at the NYC office 5 days a week.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Photoshop.
• Familiarity with third-party plugins (e.g., Maxon).
• Openness to experimenting with AI tools for image generation.
• Deep understanding of social platforms and their optimization best practices.
• Genuine interest in contemporary pop culture, including music, fashion, sports, sneakers, internet culture, and entertainment.

Responsibilities

• Edit full videos end-to-end for various formats including YouTube and social platforms.
• Craft high-quality edits for longform news interviews, short-form vertical video series with motion graphics, and brand sizzle reels.
• Apply advanced editing techniques such as audio leveling, color correction, transitions, and GFX integration using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop.
• Collaborate with producers to develop narratives that align with Complex’s editorial tone and cultural voice.
• Manage diverse footage across different formats, frame rates, resolutions, and codecs.
• Maintain organized project structures, adhering to naming conventions, media workflows, and archiving protocols.
• Optimize exports for platform-specific technical specifications while preserving creative integrity.
